A few important things for Alternatives2019 attendees...
1. Getting to Cambridge
VisitCambridge.org has put together an excellent page explaining how to get to Cambridge (via train, plane, car and bus).
Please check it out: https://www.visitcambridge.org/visitor-information/how-to-get-here
2. Checking in at the conference & parking
The address of Jesus College is:
Cambridge CB5 8BL
The nearest main road is called Victoria Avenue and the famous Midsummer Common is opposite Jesus College on the other side of the road:
You will want to enter through the main gate on Jesus Lane and approach the Porter's Lodge. There will be signs for 'Alternatives2019' that will direct you from there.
Parking is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is a £10.00 overnight parking charge per vehicle, per night.
When you arrive at the conference, you must check in at the conference desk to obtain your laminate pass, which will enable you to attend the sessions and workshops, as well as eat lunch and breakfast (if you have paid for the food option).
You will also receive your conference bag, which contains important information such as the conference program and a map of Cambridge that will help you get around.
For those staying overnight in college accommodation, the check-in time is 2pm. If you need to store luggage before you can access your room at 2pm, there is a storage room located within the West Court Reception.
Guests can access their rooms after hours using their key cards (the room cards).
Lunch will take place in the Hall in Cloister Court. It is self-serve with vegetarian options available. Afternoon tea, coffee & biscuits will be in the Webb Library on Thursday afternoon.
4. Preparing for presentations & workshops
There is a ‘Jesus College Guest’ WiFi that delegates can connect to. No password is required.
For those presenting, a standard data projector, screen, and laptop will be available. It is advised that you bring your presentation (PowerPoint) on a USB flash drive as well as keep a copy accessible online just in case.
Due to overwhelming demand for presentations, the main presentations on Thursday, August 15th should be kept to 40 minutes, and then allowing for up to 5 minutes of additional questions from the audience for a total of 45 minutes. There will also be an opportunity for those not presenting in the main sessions to briefly introduce themselves.
Also, please stay for the special closing session on Friday afternoon, where everyone will be recognized for their part in the conference.
